Old Age Pension Punjab – How to Apply, Eligibility,Benefits
The central Government of India in association with various state governments has introduced a financial aid scheme for old and destitute people. This scheme is termed as Indra Gandhi Old age Pension, under the said scheme the destitute and old people are provided with fixed month every month to helping them lead a basic life. The pension under the scheme is awarded by the state government only to the eligible candidates.
Eligibility requirement under the scheme
The pension scheme was introduced with the sole purpose of streamlining financial support to the weaker section of the society. As per the scheme, the eligibility requirement is as follows:
- The first requirement for availing the benefits of the scheme is the age of the candidate. The age criteria under the scheme in the state of Punjab vary on the Gender. For male it is 60 years or more and for female it is 58 years or more.
- The next requirement under the scheme is their residence. The person applying for the pension must be a permanent resident of the state of Punjab.
- The candidate applying for the pension to be eligible must fall under BPL category and he should not have any kind of financial support for his family members or relatives.
- Finally, the person applying for the scheme should not be eligible to receive a pension from other any state government or central government in India.
How to apply for the pension under the scheme?

Once the form is filled either online or offline, it must be signed and submitted along with other documents like Aadhar card, photography of the candidate, etc. In the offline method, the filled application form should be submitted to DSSO office, on verification of the application form the candidate will be approved to receive pension amount monthly.
Benefits of the scheme
As per the latest notification, the state of Punjab has renewed its pension amount. Earlier the old age pension awarded to eligible candidates was rupees 250, now this amount is doubled. The current old-age pension amount awarded under the scheme is rupees 500 per month.
A person can collect his old age pension amount under the scheme from Panchayat office in rural areas and for people residing in an urban area the pension amount will be credited to their bank account.
