National Talent Search Examination conducted by the NCERT helps students pursue their higher studies from the class of 10 till their Ph.D. The exams are conducted all over India and consist of two stages – State level conducted within the state and national level conducted by the NCERT. The students qualifying in the first round conducted within the state will appear for round 2 – national level. This exam helps scrutinize talented students in the field of Science and social science pursues their higher studies in the field of interest.
The registration for this exam starts in August every year and the end date is intimated by the respective state / Union territory.
The number of scholarship available is for 2000 students and the scholarship amount varies from class to class. The students of class 11 -12 are awarded Rs 1250 per month and UG and PG students are awarded Rs 2000 per month. The stipend amount for research students is as per the UGC norms.
The exams are conducted in two stages and are conducted in offline mode. The exam is categorized as MAT – Mental aptitude test and SAT – Scholastic aptitude test. The duration of the exam lasts for 120 minutes for each stage and a total duration of 240 minutes for both tests. The student should clear both the test. The first stage exam is conducted in all the states / UT whereas the second exam is conducted in 35 cities.
The eligibility criteria for entering into the National Talent Search Examination are as follows:
- The eligible students appearing for the State level exams should be from reputed private schools including KV, JNV and Sainik school
- The students must be of age 18 and above to appear for this exam
- The eligible candidates can appear in their respective states unless intimated by the center
- In case of any additional criteria mentioned, should follow the same at the time of the examination
- Students from ODL, NIOS or open boards are eligible for this exam
The eligible students appearing for the National level exams should have cleared the first stage of exam and are to be studying Class 10th within India or Abroad.
The eligible students should pursue courses in the field of science, medicine, engineering, and social science only and within India.
