Today is very sad for India, a young national level wrestler Vishal Kumar Verma Dies After Being Electrocuted At Jaipal Singh stadium in Ranchi
Really very sad & unfortunate accident, national level wrestler Vishal Kumar Verma died in Ranchi on Tuesday. The 25-year-old young wrestler was electrocuted due to a short circuit at the overrun and dilapidated Jaipal Singh stadium building that houses the office of the Jharkhand State Wrestling Association (JSWA). According to a report published in TOI Vishal Kumar Verma was electrocuted due to a short circuit. The stadium was built in 1978 and has been in deplorable conditions. It has been flooded since the start of the monsoon and its condition has deteriorated since then without any repairs and maintenance. Since the past couple of weeks when heavy rains lashed Ranchi the condition of the indoor stadium has only worsened. The death of Vishal Kumar Verma is very unfortunate and sad.
The general secretary and coach of the Jharkhand State Wrestling Association, Bholanath Singh said, “Vishal had stood fourth in the last senior national wrestling championship.” The Police headed by officer in-charge Shyamanand Mandal said, “Preliminary investigation has revealed that death was due to electrocution. Vishal was using a water pump to clear out the water when the incident took place. Faulty wiring seems to be main cause for this incident.”
However, general manager of Jharkhand Bijli Vitran Nigam (JBVNL), Ganesh Jha reportedly told TOI, “An executive engineer visited the site and reported that there is no fault in the power connection provided by JBVNL. However, there could be a loose connection in the building’s internal electrical wiring.” Nevertheless, the country lost a promising and young athlete and a family lost a beloved son in this freak accident reminiscent of Final Destination movies.
